  5. just looked up the 1rm of games athletes. i don't think any of the male would make elite. maybe rob orlando and austin malleolo. not even rich froning, figure that one out.

  6. And the interesting thing is Dan, those Categories were done in 2006, so with the growth of CrossFit as a sport I would think those numbers should be revised and/or increased, or perhaps just the women's numbers??

  7. not just a little bit off elite either, miles away!. rich froning is 100lbs off in his squat and about 60lbs off in his deadlift. i don't know about the womens numbers but it seems the mens is unachievable, when the best crossftter in the world can't make it. maybe the figures are based on people who train specifically for powerlifting.

  8. The figures are based on
    Basic Strength standards

    http://crossfit.com/cf-journal/WLSTANDARDS.pdf

These also measure the clean and bench press.

They were developed by Kilgore, Pendlay and Rippetoe( Who designed the CF Total for Glassman).

"Untrained" refers to the expected level of strength in a healthy
individual who has not trained on the exercise before but can perform it
correctly. This represents the minimum level of strength required to maintain a
reasonable quality of life in a sedentary individual.

    "Novice" means a person
training regularly for a period of 3-9 months. This strength level supports the
    demands of vigorous recreational activities.

    "Intermediate" is a person who
has engaged in regular training for up to two years. The intermediate level
indicates some degree of specialization in the exercises and a high level of
    performance at the recreational level.

    "Advanced" refers to an individual
with multi-year training experience with definite goals in the higher levels of
    competitive athletics.

"Elite" refers specifically to athletes competing in strength sports. Less than 1%of the weight training population will attain this
    level.

  9. thanks anonymous (H.C. i think?)

i just had a look a the 1rm of female games athletes. heaps make the elite category, some way over.

i have come to the conclusion that as usual (i was guilty before i started crossfit) the men who designed the standards, have over estimated the ability of men and grosely under estimated the physical ability of women.

in 12 months i will have all the benchmarks above advanced.

    good talk.

  10. Not from me Dan, I was about to thank anonymous for beating me to punch. Thanks.
Iv got a view on your take re - male/female athlete comparison. Whilst the standards are same for anyone, iv often thought in various WODs (Not all) that the girls sometimes draw the short straw, "Which in terms of athletic development is the better"
I'd go one step further Dan, when you say they underestimated the female potential... I don't think they "Underestimated" I don't think they even factored it in. And that's not having a shot at HQ, just look at the platform CrossFit was showcased. It's the preferred training program for Navy Seals etc. Look on the HQ website, where to this day there is never a WOD with 2 weight options for male/female.
I think the Rxd female weight now universally used amongst Affiliates might of been adopted from within the community.
I have a whole other rant on why females (Typicaly) have a higher degree of Awesomness than their male counterparts, & the weight conversion is only a small part.
    H.C.
